Bridgetown is a town in the South West region of WA, approximately 270 kilometres from Perth via Forrest Highway. It is a 3-hour drive from Perth and 1-hour drive from Bunbury. It is within the local government area of Bridgetown-Greenbushes and covers over an area of 35.003 square kilometres.
It is one of the most picturesque towns in WA, nestled on the beautiful Blackwood River Valley offering a relaxed country atmosphere with a good dose of serenity. Imagine waking up to valleys filled with morning mist and tranquil forests, going for stunningly scenic drives on your weekends and enjoying refreshingly cool summer nights. It’s all the above that has attracted many past visitors to make the ‘tree change’ to Bridgetown, setting up hobby farms, in search of that peaceful country living that Bridgetown has in spades.
As a thriving timber, mining and farming district and major producer of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, olives, wine and cider, you’ll never be short of places to enjoy all the wonderful flavours. There are plenty of award-winning cafes, restaurants, cellar doors and cideries in the town, plus the famous bakery that all locals flock to. If some retail therapy is on the cards, you’ll find quaint boutiques, homewares and antique shops lining the main street.
Many artists are drawn to the area, finding their inspiration in the Blackwood River Valley landscapes and exhibiting their work in local galleries. One notable gallery is the Jigsaw Gallery where hundreds of jigsaw puzzles have been collected since the 1950s – the only collection of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. There are also plenty of street art and murals to enjoy on Bridgetown’s main street.
There is plenty on offer for the adventure seekers with a network of canoeing, kayaking, walking, mountain biking and bridle trails to choose from. The Bridgetown Jarrah Park is located 20 kilometres west of Bridgetown and has four walks. It’s a great spot to pass through wildflowers, wattles, coral vine and many orchids. For some leisurely sightseeing by car, there are no fewer than eight scenic drives in the area ranging from a short 3-kilometre drive to a lookout over the town, through to a 113-kilometre drive to Balingup and Nannup.
Bridgetown hosts many events, including the ever-popular Blues at Bridgetown Festival, attracting world-class musicians and large crowds to the region every November. There is also the three-month Winter Festival with each weekend displaying a line-up of crafts, exhibitions and winter comfort food; most notably the Banquet on the Bridge, which is a popular annual sell-out.
There are two primary schools in Bridgetown; Bridgetown Primary School and St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, whilst the high school is Bridgetown High School.
The population of Bridgetown Brook is estimated to be 3,168. Of the families in Bridgetown 60% were couple families without children, 25% were couple families with children and 9.2% were one parent families.
Annual growth of the suburb is sitting at 13.9%. Based on settled sales as of 7 November 2022, the median land price in the suburb is $119,000 (reiwa.com.au).
