Leschenault is located only two hours south of Perth, and is an outer suburb of Bunbury, Western Australia. Its local government area is the Shire of Harvey. The most direct route from Perth is via the Forrest Highway.
The area of Leschenault is named after botanist Jean Baptiste Leschenault de la Tour, who was part of Nicolas Baudin’s expedition in 1802–1803. The region remained largely undeveloped until the 1980s when it was used for low-level agriculture and some holiday homes were built. In the mid-1980s onwards, more land was released and developments began.
A main attraction in the area is the Leschenault Peninsula Conservation Park, a narrow slice of land nestled between the Collie River’s mouth and the majestic Indian Ocean. This idyllic sanctuary offers a haven for a rich diversity of wildlife on both land and sea.

Due to Leschenualt being small town, most facilities are found in neighbouring Australind. There you will find several caravan parks and B&Bs, and the central meeting place is the community centre known as Settlers’ Hall, situated on Marine Drive. In the northern parts of the suburb, residents have access to the Leschenault Peninsula Conservation Park, offering natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Additionally, the region’s rubbish tip is conveniently located just off Australind Bypass.
Several schools are in the area, including Leschenault Catholic Primary School, Kingston Primary School, Parkfield Primary School and Australind Primary School. High schools include Our Lady Of Mercy College and Eaton Community College.
The population of Leschenault currently sits at around 3,058. Couples with children make up 46.4%, and is equalled by couples without children. 6.4% are one parent families.
