Augusta

Augusta is a town on the south west coast of WA, where the Blackwood River emerges into Flinders Bay. It is within the local government area of Augusta-Margaret River and is located approximately 311 kilometres from Perth. You can get here in under four hours by road, or hop on a 50-minute flight from Perth airport to Busselton and shorten the drive to just over an hour.

Many people choose Augusta as their home because of its proximity to Cape Leeuwin, and its mild climate and vicinity to the coast. The area boasts wonderful scenery, great surfing and fishing as well as other water sports and has many amenities.

There are plenty of outdoor activities for the whole family. From beautiful swimming spots at Grannies Pool and Foul Bay, to four-wheel drive tracks taking you to Boranup Beach and Deep Dean. There is also the 18-hole Augusta Golf Course where you can enjoy sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and the Blackwood River Valley. There are many sporting venues with playing fields, recreation centres and swimming pools, plus various sporting clubs and associations to join.

If you love walking trails, then the 135-kilometre Cape to Cape Track will reward you with some of the most varied trekking in the world in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. From June to September residents can witness migrating humpback and southern right whales on a whale-watching tour where they can get up close to the action.

Other attractions in Augusta include over 40 wineries, the Augusta Historical Museum, the beautiful white sands of Hamelin Bay, the enthralling Jewel Cave and The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse – the largest of its kind on mainland Australia and the perfect spot to watch the Indian and Southern oceans collide.

Augusta is well equipped with a hospital and medical centres. There are plenty of specialty shops and an IGA for your grocery needs. The streets are also filled with arts and craft shops and galleries to visit.

Augusta has good educational facilities nearby with Augusta Primary school and a high school in Margaret River. TAFE colleges and university campus are all within easy reach.
