Eaton

Eaton is a north-eastern suburb of Bunbury, only 7 kilometres from the centre of Bunbury. Its local government area is the Shire of Dardanup. Travelling from the Perth CBD will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes by car, or roughly 3 and half hours by train using the Mandurah and Pemberton lines.

This relaxed seaside suburb is set on the banks of the Collie River where locals and visitors flock for an array of outdoor activities including fishing, crabbing, picnics, bushwalking and boating. Eaton is also the coastal gateway to the scenic Ferguson Valley – Bunbury’s very own Garden of Eden. In just a short 15-minute drive you’ll be immersed in a nature playground of jarrah, marri and yarri trees and spring wildflowers. Once done with nature, you’ll be spoilt for choice with award-winning wineries, boutique breweries, fine restaurants, country retreats and a lively arts and crafts scene.

If you lead an active lifestyle, there is plenty to keep you on your toes. Mount Lennard offers 40 kilometres of beginner and advanced mountain bike trails. The shady lawns and playgrounds surrounding the Collie River are great picnic spots for the family to enjoy. There are also walking tracks along the path of the river. If you love a good catch of the day, why not try your luck at reeling in some mulloway, bream, trout or perch at Collie River. A boat ramp makes for easy access to the river and estuary.

Other services and amenities in the area include; the Eaton Recreation Centre and 24-hour gym, and Eaton Fair Shopping Centre which has both major supermarkets and the first 24-hour Kmart Superstore in WA. Other popular locations nearby include; the Bunbury Golf Club, Bunbury Wildlife Park and Bunbury’s famous Dolphin Discovery Centre – the only spot on Australia’s coast offering interaction at the shoreline, dolphin-watching and swimming boat tours.

For schooling options, residents have the option of Eaton Community College or Grace Christian School for high school. For junior school there is Eaton Primary, Clifton Park Primary, Picton Primary and Glen Huon Primary. For tertiary education, The Edith Cowan University Bunbury Campus and South Regional Tafe are also within a short 15-minute drive.

The population of Eaton is estimated to be 8,483. Couples without children make up 47.4% of the population, followed by couples with children at 34.8%. Single parent families make up 10.6%.
