Harvey

Harvey is a town located in the South West of WA along the South Western Highway between Pinjarra and Bunbury and takes its name from the nearby Harvey River. It is approximately 140 kilometres from the Perth CBD and the most convenient route by car is via Forrest Highway and the Kwinana Freeway, which takes about 90 minutes. For a more leisurely scenic route, you can take the South Western Highway through Mundijong.

Harvey was developed as a private town in the 1890s following the opening of a railway station there in 1893 and was officially declared a townsite in 1938. Harvey is well known for its dairy industry and oranges.

There’s plenty to explore in this town with numerous tourist attractions like the Stirling Cottage, Harvey Dam, The Big Orange Tower, Harvey River Estate Winery, Harvey Railway Station Museum, Harvey Internment Camp Memorial Shrine and Harvey War Memorial Park.

For the foodies, you’ll always have great local produce to choose from. There are some great cheeses, craft beers and award-winning wineries not far away. Also, the headquarters of Harvey Fresh are in this town giving locals plenty supply of Harvey Beef, Harvey Cheese and Harvey Juice. Groceries and daily supplies can be picked up from Harvey Supa IGA. Other notable amenities include a hospital, recreation and cultural centre, bakery and café, hardware store, caravan park and homestays.

If you’re after a bit of adventure, there’s the jarrah forests that you can take a walk through, with various trails to explore. There are many beautiful spots like the Logue Brook Dam or Lake Brockman where you can set up a picnic, fire up a BBQ, go for a hike, cycle, or just enjoy a stroll through the many wildflowers. These locations are also popular for canoeing, water skiing, swimming – and even some fishing when the season is right.

There are two primary schools in Harvey – Harvey Primary School and St Anne’s School. Secondary school options are Harvey Senior High School and the WA College of Agriculture – Harvey. Other popular schools nearby are Our Lady of Mercy College and Australind Senior High School. The population of Harvey is 3,462. Of the families in Harvey, 33% were couple families with children, 49.9% were couple families without children and 7.9% were one parent families.

Annual growth of the suburb is sitting at 7.9%. Based on settled sales as of 8 August 2022, the median land price in the suburb is $180,000 (reiwa.com.au).
