Sorrento is a coastal suburb approximately 19 kilometres from the Perth CBD and within the City of Joondalup local government area. It is nestled between the enviable WA coastline and West Coast Highway, making it a wonderful scenic location that you’ll never want to leave.
At its north-western corner is Hillarys Boat Harbour, built in the late 1980s but still as popular as ever. It’s the perfect spot for a family day out, date night or for drinks with mates. This entertainment precinct offers what you need for any occasion with spectacular views to match.
Have we mentioned the beaches yet? Residents in Sorrento are lucky enough to have reign over uninterrupted coastlines with sandy beach fronts stretching as far as the eye can see. At Sorrento Beach volunteer lifeguards patrol safe areas to swim between and offers a beach enclosure for swimmers. They also have a Surf Lifesaving club if your kids aspire to be young nippers. Then not far down the road is Marmion Beach, another local hotspot with heaps of cafes and restaurants nearby.
For activities out of the water, there is the Seacrest Park Community Sporting Facility with two ovals, lots of shaded areas, a recently built complex with amenities and clubrooms, plus playgrounds for the kids and plenty of parking. Not far from Sorrento is the Percy Doyle Reserve which plays host to many sporting clubs including lawn bowls, soccer, tennis and tee-ball.
If you’re wondering how the commute into town is, well take an easy drive down the Mitchell Freeway, and you will be in the Perth CBD within 20 minutes. If you would rather catch public transport, bus routes travel around Sorrento to Warwick Station, where the Joondalup line will take you into the city in just over 30 minutes on a direct line – perfect when you’re staying back for those after-work drinks.
Seacrest Village Shopping Centre provides Sorrento locals with all their shopping needs, and Westfield Whitford City is only a 7-minute drive providing more shopping and dining options. Other smaller shopping destinations close by include Marmion IGA and Duncraig Fresh IGA – both under 5 minutes’ drive.
You will not be disappointed with the local schools as Sorrento Primary School is highly rated amongst parents, with Sacred Heart College or Duncraig Senior High School both great options for high school education. For pre-school, there are some early learning centres near Sorrento, including Duncraig Early Learning Centre, Indigo Montessori Padbury, Nido Early School and Hillarys Community Kindergarten.
The population of Sorrento is 8,031 with a density of 2,276 persons per square km. The suburb is mainly populated with older and established couples and families, who combined, represent 48.7%, followed by elderly couples at 10.6%.
Annual growth of the suburb is sitting at 19.1%. Based on settled sales as of 14 March 2022, the median land price in the suburb is $600,000 (reiwa.com.au).
